We
have a heterogeneous network with Linux (SuSE)
systems and all kinds of Windows Servers. The
Arkeia server is on a Linux machine with access
to a Storagetek L20 Library with two SDLT
drives. Backups are incremental on weekdays and
full on weekends, 500-600 MB. In the past, even
our IBM AIX machines and Unixware machines were
backed up
with Arkeia.
Arkeia support is VERY convenient, especially
because you usually work with the same person. I
know that suggestions from customers are really
taken into account !

We
are running a financial transaction processing
system and Arkeia takes care of the Oracle
database backup and all the systems and
applications.
It is a homogeneous network of a dozen Linux
machines that run all the production servers
(Oracle 9i database cluster, Oracle Application
server management servers, etc.).
Since our environment is Linux based, we needed
a native backup solution that was easy for us to
install and support, while supporting tape
libraries and not just tape drives on a local
host.
Arkeia supported a wide array of libraries,
including our HP Autoloader DLT VS-80 and had
native Linux support for the clients and the
server, and also offered a native Oracle RMAN
agent for our database backups.
We have been using Arkeia for over a year now,
and have been very
happy with the level of support and assistance.

Even
though I was offsite, I was able to quickly
guide another systems administrator through the
process of restoring a file. The system told him
which tape the data was stored on and where to
find it on the tape. Here was someone who had
never used the Arkeia program, who had never
looked at the product, and yet he was able to
quickly recover the file he needed. It was
incredible.
It's reassuring to know your backups are working
and usable. There's no worse feeling than
wondering if they will restore when you need
them .

I am
a reseller solutions provider and first learned
of Arkeia during a corporate LAN installation
for a new client. Initially we had purchased a
competitor's enterprise backup solution, but
during product installation many issues surfaced
concerning platform compatibility. We now found
ourselves without a backup solution at the 11th
hour! After intensive research I came across the
Arkeia website. At first it was hard to believe
that I might possibly have located an even

We
have found Arkeia Server Backup reliable and
easy to use, both from a backup and restoration
standpoint. We are using it to back up two SuSE
Linux 9.2 servers running Lotus Domino, one of
which contains mail files and the other with
many different databases.
We back up all Lotus databases and program files
each night, totaling about 20GB per server. The
other Linux backup solutions we tried out were
awkward and had user interfaces that looked like
something out of the 1980s.

Generally speaking, we are very happy with
Arkeia as our backup solution. Our configuration
covers 3 Linux hosts, including a backup server
... a storage server ... and my workstation
The MySQL plug-in backs up our database used for
web-development and intranet websites. It is
quite comfortable for me as a developer to be
able to perform backup on the running database
in case I messed something up in the development
tables.
The main aspect I like about Arkeia is the good
multi-platform support. It's running perfectly
fine on our Linux machines but I can be sure
that I could integrate any BSD, Solaris, Mac OS
X or Windows host into the backup process should
it become necessary.
Additionally - though the user interface is very
intuitive - there is a command line version
which I really appreciate every time I have to
do some administrative work from home.
Another good thing is that the people at Arkeia
always seem very friendly and forthcoming to
their customers requests.

Since
installing Arkeia, we have streamlined and
consolidated our Linux backup requirements from
MySQL and PostgreSQL to large ext3 based file
systems.
We have found the periodic backups to be fast
and reliable. Once the system is configured we
don't have to touch it; The system emails us the
status of the backup! The client/server
architecture allows us to administer our remote
backups with ease.
The MySQL HotBackup plugin was a breeze to
install and works flawlessly. We can browse the
databases and tables just like a file system,
all organised by the date the backup was
performed. Managing the backup in this manner is
great and the integration into Arkeia is
seamless.
We use the Arkeia MySQL HotBackup plugin to back
up over 1,000 databases in around 35 minutes!

The
nature of our business requires backing up
sensitive CAD data of an ever increasing volume
and storing that data for long periods of time.
We decided to use Arkeia Server Backup after
introducing a new central server system, running
under Linux. Arkeia provides the flexible,
reliable, native Linux solution with autoloader
support we were looking for. Compared to our
previous system (using a slower tape drive),
time for a full backup was cut down from seven
hours to less than two. Sending a status email
to the administrator after backup completion is
a very valuable feature. We particularly
appreciate
Arkeia Technical Support taking their mission
seriously. They are able to identify any issues
quickly, thanks to the extensive internal
logging features of Arkeia.
As far as our long-term strategy is concerned,
knowing that we have an upgrade path to
network-wide and encrypted backups keep us
confident to use Arkeia for the next years to
come.

Our
external web network configuration includes
about 25 servers running Windows 2000 and Linux
including Red Hat, Fedora and Slackware
distributions. Our servers, IBM and MAXDATA, are
Intel dual Xenon processors, with raid disk
systems. As a database system we utilize
Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL Server. The MySQL
master / slave server is backed up
with the Arkeia plug in. We backup about 200 GB
daily, and once per week the amount of data
increases to 400 GB.
We previously tested several backup solutions,
but none were able to do everything we needed.
Arkeia was a pleasant surprise that allowed us
to restore files from an old tape without the
backup
server. It works!
My absolute favorite is the Arkeia Disaster
Recovery module. It is very easy to use, fast
and, simply stated, it works. We are able to
rebuild a server without any information from
the machine itself.

We
backup about 12 TB a weekend. Many systems have
dual gigabyte ethernet interfaces. One file
server is a dual Opteron with almost 3 TB's of
usable RAID-5 space.
CHPC relies on an IBM 3584-L32 tape library with
1 expansion frame (D32). It has a total of 675
slots with 10 tape drives with a mix of LTO1 and
LTO2 technologies.
